Trump 'unhappy' with Ukraine war, says he'll talk to Putin

Donald Trump has said he is "unhappy" with the war in Ukraine, following Russia's latest massive drone and missile attack on its neighbour. The DW news agency reported the comments.
"I'm not happy with what's happening there," the former US president told reporters on Sunday. "I think we'll get it straightened out," he said, adding: "But I'm not happy with them. I'm not happy with everything that has to do with this war."
Mr Trump also said he planned to speak by phone with Russian President Vladimir Putin "very soon".
"Very soon. Within the next few days," Mr Trump was quoted as saying by CNN. He had also mentioned his plans to talk to Mr Putin two days earlier on 5 September, saying: "Yes, I'm going to do it. We had a very good dialogue."
On the same Sunday, the former US president said he was ready to tighten sanctions against Russia. Meanwhile, US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent has suggested that further economic pressure from the US and Europe could prompt Mr Putin to start peace negotiations with Ukraine.
"Russia is escalating"
Commenting on the Russian attack on Ukraine, Mr Trump's special representative for Ukraine, Keith Kellogg, said it "appears Russia is escalating" by hitting the Ukrainian government building.
"Two weeks ago, I was in this building with Prime Minister Yulia Sviridenko. History shows that actions of this type can get out of control," Mr Kellogg wrote on X, resharing a video posted by Ms Sviridenko of the government building damaged in the attack.
According to him, "the attack was not a signal that Russia wants to end this war diplomatically."
Russia launched 810 drones and 13 missiles at Ukraine on the night of 7 September. Regional authorities have reported at least seven deaths, including a two-month-old baby boy, and dozens injured. For the first time since the war began, the Ukrainian Government building in Kyiv was damaged in a Russian attack.
