Moldova secures $7.9M grant for Dniester River restoration

Moldova is set to receive a $7.9 million grant from the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD) to expand sustainable landscape management practices in the Dniester River basin.
The country's parliamentary foreign policy committee has approved a consultative opinion for the grant agreement, which is expected to be signed in the coming weeks.
The money will fund the “Ecosystem Restoration for Marine Pollution Prevention” project. The initiative, running from 2026 to 2030, will be managed by the National Office for Environmental Project Implementation in coordination with the Ministries of Environment and Finance.
The project's goals are to reduce pollution, restore forests and aquatic ecosystems, and increase resilience to climate change.
Expected outcomes include improving the quality of life for communities near the Dniester, providing natural resources, and creating new jobs.
