Photovoltaic power plant will be built in Zâmbreni, Ialoveni

A photovoltaic power plant is set to be built in the commune of Zâmbreni, located in the Ialoveni district, covering an area of approximately 18 hectares. It is expected to start operating in four years. On Wednesday, September 10, the government authorized the installation of the plant outside the town.
According to the Minister of Energy, Dorin Junghietu, the plant will have a capacity of 22 MW, with an energy storage system that will have a maximum capacity of 16,512 MWh.
The Council for the Examination of Investments of Importance for State Security approved, back in July, the application submitted by SRL TPI PHARM for the construction of the new photovoltaic park.
"The installation of power plants with a capacity greater than 20 MW or the increase in the capacity of an existing plant must be approved by the Government", the minister reminded at the Government meeting.
Construction work on the plant is expected to begin in 2027, with commissioning planned for the end of 2029.
We remind you that the Republic of Moldova relies heavily on electricity imports to meet its domestic consumption. This dependence makes the economy vulnerable to supply disruptions or increases in energy prices. By increasing local energy production capacity and implementing energy efficiency measures, dependence on imports can be reduced, according to representatives of the Ministry of Energy.
"The construction of the power plant will have an impact on the general safety and security of the power system, environmental protection and emission reduction, the valorization of land not used in the agricultural circuit, and the increase in the share of energy from renewable energy sources", reads the informative note of the document approved by the Government.
According to the Ministry of Energy, at the end of 2024, installed renewable power plants reached a total capacity of approximately 580 MW, a three-fold increase compared to 2022 and eight-fold compared to 2020. The share of renewable energy in final electricity consumption in 2024 exceeded 16%, with the Republic of Moldova's objective being to increase the share of renewable energy in the energy mix to at least 30% by 2030.
