Ialoveni tragedy: Woman dies trying to extinguish household fire

A 63-year-old woman from Dănceni, Ialoveni district died due to a fire in dry vegetation. The tragedy occurred on the afternoon of September 10.

According to the General Inspectorate for Emergencies, a call to the 112 Service was received at 1:24 p.m. Fire engulfed the vegetation near a woman’s home, affecting an area of approximately three ares. Firefighters successfully evacuated the woman, who was attempting to extinguish the fire on her own. Unfortunately, she sustained second and third-degree burns over a large portion of her body. She was urgently transported to the hospital, but later succumbed to her injuries.

Initial investigations indicate that the fire was caused by a failure to adhere to fire prevention regulations during sanitation work, specifically the burning of dry vegetation. Strong winds facilitated the rapid spread of the fire to nearby land.

The General Inspectorate for Emergencies is advising the public not to use open flames for cleaning agricultural land, households, or areas adjacent to homes. Citizens are urged to refrain from igniting dry vegetation or household waste and to avoid using fire in areas such as fields, forests, and recreational sites.

In the past 24 hours, firefighters and rescuers responded to 64 emergency situations. In case of danger, people are advised to call the 112 service immediately.
