Defense Ministry denies reports of British and NATO troop deployment in Moldova

The Ministry of Defense rejected the false claims on various social networks. These claims state that "British soldiers are deployed on the border with the Transnistrian region" and that "over 800 NATO soldiers will arrive in the Republic of Moldova after the elections." The Ministry emphasizes that these statements are unfounded and are part of a disinformation campaign orchestrated by the Russian Federation against the Republic of Moldova.
“This is not the first time that fabricated scenarios are posted on platforms like Telegram or TikTok, alongside other false narratives regarding the supposed militarization of the country. This is all part of the hybrid war that Russia is waging against the Republic of Moldova,” the statement reads.
The ministry warns that the aim of these actions is to instill fear and aggression, create panic, and undermine citizens’ trust in state institutions. Ultimately, the goal of these manipulations is to disrupt the country’s European path, which fosters peace and stability.
The authorities urge citizens to seek information only from official and credible sources and not to fall victim to disinformation.
We remind you that there has been an increase in false information and deepfake video materials posted online. Authorities are urging citizens to remain vigilant and to distinguish between authentic and fabricated videos, particularly those featuring officials delivering seemingly important messages that may actually aim to mislead the public.
Angelica Caraman, the president of the Central Electoral Commission, also expressed concerns on Radio Moldova about a rise in disinformation campaigns in the online space. These campaigns are intended to manipulate voters, especially in the context of the parliamentary elections scheduled for September 28.
