Agreement on coordinated control at the Leuseni-Albița Free Trade Zone to be ratified by the Romanian authorities
The agreement between the Government of Romania and the Government of the Republic of Moldova on coordinated control on the territory of Romania at the State Border Crossing Point Albița (Romania) - Leușeni (Republic of Moldova) will be endorsed by the Government of Romania in today's meeting, Agerpres reports. The Romanian government will approve a draft law providing for the ratification of the agreement signed on 9 February with the Republic of Moldova.
It will facilitate the crossing of the Leuseni-Albița state border and reduce waiting times at the crossing point, with coordinated Moldovan-Romanian controls based on the "one-stop" principle.
The implementation of the agreement will also contribute to guaranteeing the security of the border between Moldova and Romania, as well as ensuring national security and preventing and fighting organised cross-border crime.
Coordinated control will start as soon as all internal procedures in both Moldova and Romania and the preparation of the necessary infrastructure are completed.
The agreement between the Government of the Republic of Moldova and the Government of Romania on coordinated control at the Leuseni-Albița border crossing point was triggered by the need for both countries to have new and complex mechanisms in place to ensure border security and to resist the challenges of war.
The document would be valid for a period of six months, and its extension would be decided later on the basis of a joint evaluation of the results of the control system.
