11 thousands runners fill Chisinau’s streets with sport and joy
Eleven thousand people participated in the Marathon, held in the capital. The event attracted both amateur runners and seasoned athletes accustomed to long distances. Regardless of their experience level, everyone shared a common goal: to have fun and enjoy a unique experience.
The event began at nine in the morning at the Great National Assembly Square. Participants had the option to choose from several distances: 5, 10, 21, or 42 kilometers.
"This is actually my second marathon. It was much easier this time, and I enjoyed it much more than the first. A significant amount of preparation was required to run a certain distance. I'm glad that this time I enjoyed the experience without struggling."
"The race was filled with emotions because I come from Italy. I plan to return next year with my colleagues from work, and I will invite them to join me."
The first person to cross the finish line in the 10-kilometer race was Mihail Sprîncean.
"These 10 kilometers were easier at the beginning. As I progressed, it became increasingly difficult, but the motivation from the crowd helped me secure the victory," said the athlete.
The competition started with a unique event called "Marathon for Everyone," which featured participants with locomotor difficulties. Costel Burlacu was the first to finish this race.
"It was challenging, but I never believed it was impossible. It is possible! This is a success, and I hope for more in the future. This is my first time participating in a marathon, and I proved to myself that I can do it. I look forward to joining the next marathon and competing in the 10-kilometer race," said Costel Burlacu.
The event brought together athletes from 58 countries.
"This is the 11th year we have gathered in September. We have participants from 58 countries, including those from Europe and other continents. We are proud that there are 10 more countries than last year", says Maxim Zorchin, the organizer of the competition.
On Saturday, special children's running races took place as part of the Chisinau Marathon. The youngest participants ran a distance of 400 meters, and teenagers aged between 11 and 13 ran two kilometers.
