A family from the city of Drochia successfully established a business centered around the authentic flavors of traditional Moldovan dishes. After spending several years abroad, they returned home with the goal of investing in something that brings them joy and evokes the tastes of their childhood. Today, they offer customers a variety of delicacies, including roulades, sarmale (rolled rice cabbage), zeama (chicken soup), and more, all prepared "like at home" using natural ingredients sourced from local farmers.

Five years ago, I opened a small bakery in the city. After working hard for four years, I successfully established the business. Recently, I had an idea: why not create a cafeteria so that passersby would have a place to enjoy a meal?" says entrepreneur Tatiana Bîrlădean.

Tatiana decided to start her business to persuade her mother to stop working abroad. Now, the entire family is involved in the venture.

"It's challenging. It's not easy to prepare food for all our customers and satisfy everyone's individual tastes. I strive to cook well and please everyone, which is why my daughter and I work together," explains Lidia Bîrlădean.

All products are made from natural ingredients, without additives, following traditional recipes.

"In our kitchen, we prepare the food, pies, broth, and borsch. We don’t use preservatives; we aim to make fresh food every day. The pies are the star of our kitchen right now," said Tatiana Bîrlădean.

Small family businesses like this one show how money earned abroad can be reinvested in the local community. By leveraging culinary traditions and creating employment opportunities, these initiatives foster sustainable economic development in the region and provide a viable model for returning home.
