Over 4,400 Ukrainians seek Moldovan citizenship since invasion

Since the large-scale invasion of Ukraine on February 24, 2022, over 4,400 Ukrainians have applied for Moldovan citizenship. By the end of July this year, 2,630 of them had successfully obtained Moldovan citizenship.
As of now, a total of 2,843 applicants have been granted citizenship in the Republic of Moldova, according to data from the General Inspectorate for Migration.
As of September 15, 432 Ukrainian citizens are registered in the asylum system. Among them, 240 individuals are beneficiaries of humanitarian protection, 191 are asylum seekers, and one individual holds refugee status.
Additionally, over 3,700 Ukrainian citizens have the right to temporary residence in the Republic of Moldova, while just over 2,600 have obtained permanent residence in the country.
From March 2023 to September 15, 2024, the General Inspectorate for Migration issued 80,500 identity documents to individuals benefiting from temporary protection.
We remind you that nearly 128,000 Ukrainian refugees are currently registered in Moldova, and more than 1.2 million have transited through the country, according to the United Nations Refugee Agency.
