Moldova takes over the Presidency of the Council of Europe: "Direct impact on reforms and the path to the EU"

The Republic of Moldova is set to assume the Presidency of the Committee of Foreign Ministers of the Council of Europe (CoE) beginning in November 2025. Falk Lange, the Head of the Council of Europe Office in Chisinau, believes that the Republic of Moldova will successfully accomplish the objectives it has outlined to achieve by May 2026.

The Republic of Moldova has chosen to organize several major events, including the Conference of Ministers of Social Affairs, with a focus on the Social Charter of the Council of Europe, and an event on the implementation of the Lanzarote Convention on Child Protection”, declared the head of the Council of Europe Office in Chisinau, on the “Dimensiunea Diplomatica” show on Moldova 1 TV, moderated by Ludmila Barbă.

According to the European official, the mandate of the Republic of Moldova coincides with the current geopolitical challenges.

We place a major emphasis on the final results of the massive aggression of the Russian Federation in Ukraine. The Republic of Moldova, being in the immediate vicinity of Ukraine, is directly affected by this war. We will also have activities dedicated to your country in this regard”, announced Falk Lange, on Moldova 1 TV.

Lange also mentioned the initiative recently launched by the Secretary General of the Council of Europe, Alain Berset, regarding a new Pact for Democracy. This, says the head of the Council of Europe Office in Chisinau, will strengthen fundamental aspects for all European societies and will contribute to the fight against electoral corruption and vote-buying practices.

I am firmly convinced that these efforts will have a direct impact on the reforms and on the path of the Republic of Moldova towards the European Union”, concluded Falk Lange.

We recall that President Maia Sandu confirmed, during the meeting with the Secretary General of the Council of Europe, Alain Berset, which took place last week in Strasbourg, the readiness of the Republic of Moldova to actively contribute, during her mandate at the Chairmanship of the Committee of Ministers, to the consolidation of democracy, the rule of law and European unity.

The two officials also agreed to strengthen cooperation through the Republic of Moldova-Council of Europe Action Plan, the adoption of new measures to defend democracy in the country, and to increase resilience to external interference.
