Moldova's state-owned energy company, Energocom, has announced a projected average purchase price for the 2025-2026 gas year of around €38.5 per megawatt-hour (€/MWh), or €410 per thousand cubic meters. This price includes transport costs to Moldova's virtual trading point (VTP).

The company has already procured nearly 91% of the natural gas it needs for the coming winter. The purchases were made through 54 separate monthly tenders since May, contracting the equivalent of about 700 million cubic meters of gas.

In a press release, the company said the purchases were primarily based on TTF front-month quotes from the independent analysis agency Argus, and were cross-referenced with quotes from the Romanian Commodities Exchange.

Energy expert Eugen Muravschi told Teleradio-Moldova the average price for the previous gas year was €40/MWh, excluding transport. He noted: "This means a better price is expected than before, including for the heating season."

Muravschi also stressed that the price announced by Energocom is a forecast, with the actual price to be updated monthly based on market quotations.

"The European exchange is currently stable, with prices better than in the first half of the year," the expert added. "Winter futures quotations are also stable, and have been decreasing compared to previous months. This indicates the European market does not expect any price rises in the coming months, a sentiment reflected in Energocom's forecast."

Muravschi further added that there is a real chance gas prices could fall, although he noted it's "not guaranteed."

In May, the National Agency for Energy Regulation of Moldova designated Energocom as the country's main natural gas supplier for a three-year period.
