Trump says Zelenskyy must 'make a deal' with Russia to end war

US President Donald Trump said on Tuesday that his Ukrainian counterpart, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, "will have to make a deal" with Moscow to end the war.
The American leader did not specify the terms of such an agreement.
Mr Trump also offered to personally mediate a peace deal between Mr Zelenskyy and Russian President Vladimir Putin. He added, "It takes two to tango. These are two people, Zelenskyy and Putin, who hate each other... It looks like I'll have to be in the same room with them because they can't be together. There's a lot of hate there."
Separately, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced that Mr Trump and Mr Zelenskyy could meet next week in New York on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly. Mr Pompeo added: "If peace is possible, he [Trump] wants to get it. At some point, he might come to the conclusion that it's impossible, but he hasn't gotten there yet." The leaders last met on 18 August in Washington.
Mr Trump also warned he is ready to impose "serious sanctions" against Russia, but only if NATO members stop buying Russian oil. He called the imports "shocking," stating they weaken the alliance's negotiating position.
