Moldovan students abroad urged to vote in key election

A student association is urging Moldovans studying abroad to vote in the country's upcoming election on September 28.
Appearing on the Moldova 1 show "Far-Close," two members of the league discussed the importance of youth participation, as the vote will determine the country's direction for the next four years.
"The most important decisions are made in Parliament, and this vote will choose the direction for the next four years," stated Sanda Erhan, a master's student at the University of Geneva. She added that low youth turnout is a frequent issue, but every individual vote contributes to the whole.
The association's representatives also encouraged young Moldovans to study abroad, gain experience, and then return to Moldova to apply their new skills. They noted that students could also apply for internships at home, many of which are now paid.
After completing her law degree in France, Sanda Erhan went on to a master's program at the University of Geneva in Switzerland. During her undergraduate studies, she also completed a successful internship at a court in Tours, where she was able to apply legal theory.
"The French educational system is more practice-oriented, which helps students better understand the field," Sanda said, adding that this is also thanks to professors with real-world legal experience.
Ana-Maria Botnarescu, a student from Babeș-Bolyai University in Romania, said her professors included Members of the European Parliament and the mayor of Cluj. She noted that young professors and doctoral students also found ways to motivate students and organise non-formal activities.
"I would like to see people with experience returning to Moldova, as well as young specialists who can share their energy," said Ms Botnarescu, president of the league. "I would also like to see a fair grading system and an absence of corruption."
A common theme for both guests on the show was their choice to intern at state institutions in Moldova: Ms Botnarescu at the Presidency, and Ms Erhan at the EU Delegation and the Government.
