Construction work on the future bridge over the Prut, which will connect the city of Ungheni in the Republic of Moldova with Ungheni in Romania, is progressing according to schedule. The goal is to have the bridge operational by the end of next year. The project’s progress was reviewed by Mircea Păscăluță, the Secretary of State for Transport, and his Romanian counterpart, Irinel Ionel Scrioșteanu.

Two officials visited the construction site and discussed the completed stages on both banks of the Prut with the builders and designers.

On the left bank, in the Republic of Moldova, the construction team is currently working on installing the piles—15 out of the 18 required are already in place. On the right bank in Romania, progress is similar: all the necessary piles have been completed.

The officials convened at the Ungheni District Council, where, along with designers, representatives of the Border Police, and other stakeholders, they discussed the final approval of the technical design for the motorway bridge.

The Ungheni bridge is a key component of the strategic A8 Unirii Motorway project, which will connect Târgu Mureș, Iași, and Ungheni to the border with the Republic of Moldova. The bridge will span 261 meters and will consist of two parallel structures, each featuring two lanes in each direction and sidewalks. The project also includes a shared border crossing point. It is funded by European resources, with a total investment exceeding 30 million euros.
