VIDEO // Ambulance doctor caught selling gold chain stolen from accident victim

The Orhei police have documented a serious case of theft, in which an ambulance doctor is suspected of stealing a gold chain from a patient in critical condition, after a road accident on September 11, near the town of Step-Soci.

According to the Orhei Police Inspectorate, the victim’s father – a 37-year-old man who later died in hospital – noticed the missing piece of jewelry, which his son was wearing around his neck at the time of the accident.

Following investigations, law enforcement officers determined that the Emergency Medical Assistance (AMU) team doctor who responded to the scene had stolen the chain and sold it to a pawnshop. The object, valued at approximately 70,000 lei, was sold for 37,500 lei.

The police recovered the jewellery, and during the searches, goods purchased with the money obtained from the sale were also found, including a boiler and a pump.

Both the doctor and the nurse from the AMU team who responded to the accident were detained for 72 hours. They are being investigated for theft.

Police released video footage of the moment the gold chain was sold at the pawnshop.
