Fălești man sentenced to 17 years for killing grandmother
A 27-year-old man from Fălești was sentenced to 17 years in prison for murdering his grandmother. The crime took place during the summer of this year while the man was under the influence of alcohol. He attacked his relative with a hammer. The sentence was pronounced by the Bălți Court.
According to the case materials, the man lived in the same house as the elderly woman, but they had not been getting along for some time. One evening in late June, a tragic incident occurred. Unable to control his anger, the man attacked the woman with an axe from their household. Forensic doctors recorded multiple blows to her head, which left her with no chance of survival.
This was not the young man's first criminal offence. Although he admitted his guilt, the sentence handed down was severe. The magistrates ordered the cumulation of unexecuted sanctions from two previous decisions and sentenced him to 17 years in a closed-type penitentiary.
The sentence can be appealed within 15 days at the Nord Court of Appeal.
