The six new devices, valued at over six million lei (£280,000), are expected to significantly improve the quality and precision of oncological treatment.

Iurie Ivanov, a veteran surgeon, praised the performance of the new equipment. “It has the capability to freeze a tumor to -50 degrees, which allows us to extract the tissue and send it for cytological and histological examination. The diagnostic accuracy is remarkably high,” he said.

One of the devices, an ultrasound electrocoagulator, "reduces surgical operating times and allows us to perform more sophisticated procedures," a hospital representative said. "It gives us a greater degree of confidence and results in less blood loss, enabling us to preserve vital structures during incisions.”

Over 45,000 people in Moldova are currently living with cancer, placing enormous pressure on the national healthcare system, according to Angela Paraschiv, State Secretary at the Ministry of Health.

"It is very important to benefit not only from efficient treatment but also from early diagnosis and guidance throughout the treatment," noted Frederic Coene, from the EU Delegation to Chișinău.

"Together, we are making a very important impact on cancer control and treatment in the Republic of Moldova, as well as on resilience to these diseases," declared Miljana Grbic, head of the WHO Office in the country.
