"Verificat" show on Moldova 1 TV: Shor’s allegations of ballot fraud abroad are false

One of the most unlikely theories recently suggested by opponents of Moldova's European integration is that the government in Chisinau is planning to falsify the results of parliamentary elections in the diaspora. Journalist Elena Cioina, the host of the show "Verificat" on Moldova 1, has uncovered the source of these claims and explains the true intentions behind such narratives.

In the September 22 edition of the show "Verificat," it is reported that the renowned Russian state press agency, TASS, which has a long history of disinformation dating back to the Soviet era, has made claims regarding the alleged fabrication of parliamentary elections in the diaspora.

TASS quotes Ilan Shor, a Moldovan businessman who fled to Moscow after being convicted of a crime in Chișinău. He states, "We clearly understand that there will be falsification of ballots at polling stations abroad," expressing this with the conviction of someone who has witnessed similar events.

Elena Cioina highlights that these accusations lack evidence and originate from one of the most corrupt politicians, known for continuous electoral bribery, a fact established by Moldovan courts. Recent police and media investigations reveal that Shor's group is actively involved in corrupting tens of thousands of voters, using tens of millions of dollars from Russian sources for this purpose.

"Why do Shor and Russian propaganda insist on this narrative? Primarily, he and his Moscow backers are attempting to incite a conflict between Moldovans at home and those abroad—an imaginary conflict predominantly discussed by Russian officials and pro-Russian politicians in Chișinău. The Russians appear to dislike the Moldovan diaspora because citizens living abroad have significantly influenced electoral outcomes, preventing the Republic of Moldova from falling back into the hands of oligarchs or Russian control. In fact, thanks to the hundreds of thousands of votes cast from abroad, Moldova is currently a leading candidate for joining the European Union, a path that many view as a means of saving the country from uncertainty and poverty," explains journalist Elena Cioina.

You can find out more about propaganda messages, key figures involved, and their objectives, in the show "Verificat," broadcast daily from Monday to Friday after "Mesager."
