Moldova signs international declaration for the protection of humanitarian personnel

Moldova has joined the declaration on protecting humanitarian personnel, reaffirming its commitment to international law and safe humanitarian work. The document was signed in New York by the country’s permanent UN representative, Gheorghe Leucă.

The declaration was drafted by a group of countries, including Australia, Brazil, Colombia, Indonesia, Japan, Jordan, Sierra Leone, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom, in consultation with the UN and humanitarian organizations. It aims to strengthen global political will to protect humanitarian personnel and ensure safe, rapid, and unhindered assistance to civilians in conflict zones.

In August, UN Secretary-General António Guterres called for stronger global action to protect humanitarian personnel, warning that 2024 has been the deadliest year on record for aid workers, with attacks reaching unprecedented levels.
