Moldovan official in Brussels: Diaspora is Moldova’s lifeline, again

Marian Cepoi, a financial officer at the European Commission in Brussels, stated on the "Departe-Aproape" show on Moldova 1 TV, "The diaspora is the oar that saves the boat of the Republic of Moldova for the second time."
Speaking about his professional activity in Belgium, the Moldovan stated that he has held the position of Financial Officer within the Office of the Deputy Director-General of the European Commission for more than a year.
“I am practically the last eye that checks financial transactions before they are finally validated by my superior, these are transactions of several million euros,” said Marian Cepoi.
He is also a founding member of the Moldova-EU Club, which brings together over 100 Moldovans with interests in European affairs in Brussels.
“We actually aim to create a network of Moldovans who work in European affairs, and here we are talking about those who work in EU institutions, such as: the Commission, the Parliament, the Council, but also other EU Agencies. But also those in the NGO or consultancy sector in Brussels, because they work directly with European Union legislation,” said the financial officer from Brussels.
Another objective is the support, formal or informal, granted to the Republic of Moldova.
“You have seen that there are already programs that allow Moldovans to return to work in ministries or agencies – this is also our result,” said Marian Cepoi.
Asked by editor Lucia Ciobanu how he sees Moldova in recent years, the young man emphasized that, coming home several times a year, he notices how things are changing for the better and sees Moldovan society getting closer and closer to the European one.
From journalism and research to finance
Marian Cepoi completed both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees at the State University of Moldova while actively participating in journalistic and research activities. He later attended the College of Europe in Warsaw, Poland. In 2017, he became a fellow of the Blue Book program, which is initiated by the European Commission. During his time in Brussels, he held various roles within the institution, ultimately securing his current position as a financial officer.
