Moldova’s Sandu warns of Russian ‘massive interference’ in vote

Moldovan President Maia Sandu cast her vote in the parliamentary elections and appealed for a high turnout from citizens.
“I voted for a Parliament that can ensure peace, a legislature that respects the Republic of Moldova and its citizens, and a Parliament to advance the country’s European path,” President Sandu said.
Maia Sandu warned that the country faces major dangers and urged voters not to sell their vote.
“Moldova, our home, is under threat and needs the help of each one of you. It shouldn’t be bought by votes that decide the fate of our country. Let’s not allow corrupt actors and traitors to sell our future,” she said.
Maia Sandu warned that the Russian Federation is massively interfering in the election through attempted vote-buying, the recruitment and training of young people for destabilising actions, and through disinformation campaigns.
“We all know that the Russian Federation has been massively interfering in the Republic of Moldova's elections. She and Moldovan institutions have spoken about various methods, starting with attempts to buy votes, for which hundreds of millions of euros have been spent. We have spoken about the training of young people from the Republic of Moldova to organise violence and destabilising actions. We all saw the recruitment and training of Moldovans to produce and distribute fake content—all this so that Russia can seize power in Chișinău and transform the Republic of Moldova for its own purposes. Moldovans must decide. It's time to protect our country,” Ms Sandu concluded.
Moldovan citizens are electing the 12th legislature of Parliament on Sunday. Polling stations will remain open until 9:00 PM local time.
