Trump 'authorised' Ukraine to hit targets deep inside Russia, aide claims

Mr Trump, the US President, has reportedly authorised Ukraine to strike targets deep inside Russia.

The claim was made by former aide and Special Envoy for Ukraine, Keith Kellogg, during an interview with Fox News.

Mr Kellogg said the decision was also backed by other members of the Trump administration, according to reports by the Ukrainian news agencies Unian and 24tv.ua.

Asked directly if the former US President thought Ukraine could use long-range weapons to strike Russia, Mr Kellogg replied that it had been authorised by him.

“I think, reading what he said, and also the statements of Vice-President Vance and Secretary of State Rubio, the answer is – yes. They should use their long-range striking capability,” Mr Kellogg said.

US stance on strikes

According to The Wall Street Journal, Mr Trump told his Ukrainian counterpart, President Volodymyr Zelensky, that he was ready to lift a ban on attacks using US weapons inside Russia. Mr Trump, however, confined himself to statements and did not make any firm commitments.

Recently, President Zelensky stated that if Ukraine receives long-range weapons from the United States, the Ukrainian Armed Forces will be able to strike targets deep inside Russian territory, as reported by 24tv.ua. However, Ukraine will abide by the laws of war and will only attack military targets.
