Council of the European Union welcomes Moldova election results, condemns Russian interference

The European Union (EU) welcomes the results of the parliamentary elections held in the Republic of Moldova on September 28. The EU reaffirms its support for the country's European aspirations. An official statement from the Council of the EU highlights that the election results reflect the "clear and strong support" of citizens for the goal of joining the European Union, which is enshrined in the Constitution.

According to the preliminary conclusions of the OSCE/ODIHR mission, the elections were competitive, well-organized and offered real political alternatives, based on a solid legal framework. However, some problems arose due to the new laws and eligibility criteria for candidates, but the Central Election Commission was “cooperative in resolving them”.

The Council states that the electoral process took place in a context of unprecedented interference by Russia, through disinformation, vote buying, cyber attacks and the training of violent provocateurs. “The European Union strongly condemns the hybrid attacks by Russia and its proxies, aimed at undermining the rule of law and the democratic process in the Republic of Moldova”, the statement reads.

Brussels congratulated the citizens for their resistance and determination in the face of external pressure, as well as the national institutions for their efforts to guarantee the integrity of the elections.

At the same time, the European Union reaffirms its commitment to work with the new Parliament and the future Government to advance the accession negotiations, implement the Reform Agenda and strengthen the country's economic resilience.

"The future of the Republic of Moldova and its citizens lies in the European Union", the Council of the EU statement states.

We would like to point out that the Republic of Moldova elected its new Parliament on September 28, 2025, in the ordinary elections for the designation of the 101 deputies of the 12th Legislature.

PAS obtained 50.20% of the votes (792,557), the "Patriotic" Bloc - 24.17% (381,505), the "Alternative" Bloc - 7.96% (125,685), the Our Party - 6.20% (97,852), and the "Democracy at Home" Party - 5.62% (88,679).

According to the ADEPT Center estimates, these results would bring PAS 55 mandates in the future Parliament, 26 to the "Patriotic" Bloc, eight to the "Alternative" Bloc, and six mandates each to the Our Party and the "Democracy at Home" Party.
