Teleradio-Moldova starts consultations on Eurovision 2026 participation

Teleradio-Moldova (TRM) has initiated discussions with the country's artistic community regarding potential participation in next year's Eurovision Song Contest.
The discussions focused on several key aspects, including the format of the national selection, potential changes to the regulations, promotion strategies, and support measures for participants. Concerns and challenges related to the creative environment were also raised, along with proposals for improving the organization of the competition at the national level, reads a press release from the institution.
The final decision regarding the Republic of Moldova's participation in the Eurovision Song Contest 2026 will be made at the conclusion of the consultation process, which aims to identify "a formula that corresponds to the current local context."
We remind you that the Republic of Moldova withdrew from this year's edition of the music competition, marking the country's 20th participation in the Eurovision Song Contest.

On January 22, Corneliu Durnescu, the former director of Moldova 1 TV, and Daniela Crudu, the head of the Eurovision Moldova Delegation, announced the decision to withdraw from the contest. This announcement came after the live auditions stage, where 12 artists and bands had qualified for the national final.
The organizers explained that the decision was made "following a detailed analysis of the current situation, as well as the economic, administrative, and artistic challenges."
The participation fee for the Republic of Moldova, as communicated by the European Broadcasting Union (EBU), is €21,486. Additionally, there are significant costs associated with the organization of the national final, production of the show, promotion of the winning artist, stage production, technical equipment, and other related expenses.
Despite withdrawing from the contest, Moldova 1 TV still broadcast live the two semi-finals and the Grand Final from Basel, Switzerland.
