Cristina Gherasimov: Moldova will share its experience on free elections and democracy in Copenhagen

During the European leaders' summit in Copenhagen, the Republic of Moldova will share important insights on the lessons learned from recent elections, the importance of protecting citizens' right to vote freely, and how the country has addressed its democratic challenges. This was announced by Cristina Gherasimov, the Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration, in an interview on the "We and Europe" show on Radio Moldova.
"The main theme of the summit is European security, and I believe that the Republic of Moldova has several important messages to convey, following the electoral process we have gone through. We will share our experience in protecting democracy and democratic values. We have demonstrated unprecedented resilience and today we are an example for other European states preparing for elections," said Gherasimov.
The summit takes place twice a year, and the Republic of Moldova hosted the previous edition in June 2023. Participation in Copenhagen represents an important step in consolidating the country's position within the European Political Community, Cristina Gherasimov added.
The meeting is also attended by the President of the Republic of Moldova, Maia Sandu, accompanied by the Moldovan delegation.
Maia Sandu will intervene in the opening session. Also, on the sidelines of the summit, she has scheduled bilateral and multilateral meetings with European leaders, heads of state and government.
The European Political Community was launched at the initiative of French President Emmanuel Macron as a platform for dialogue and political cooperation between the Member States of the European Union and countries outside the European Union's area. The first edition took place in Prague, in October 2022, and the second was hosted by the Republic of Moldova, in Bulboaca, in June 2023.
