Forester of 2025, Gheorghe Bagrin: It’s the job of my heart

Gheorghe Bagrin, a forester at the "Plaiul Fagului" Nature Reserve, was recognized as the "Best Forester of the Year 2025" in the Republic of Moldova. His passion, dedication, and profound connection with nature led to this national recognition during the finals of a prestigious competition. In an interview with Radio Moldova, he said, "It is a job that brings joy to my heart, and I hope we have the strength and health to continue moving forward."
The final of the “Best Forester” contest brought together 22 participants from the Republic of Moldova and three from Romania this year, in a competition that combined tradition and responsibility for the future of forests. The trophy was won by Gheorghe Bagrin, a forester at the “Plaiul Fagului” Natural Reserve, who confessed to Radio Moldova that his love for nature has guided his entire career.
“I have a passion for nature, for plants and fauna. After graduating from the Agrarian University, even though life took me abroad for a while, I returned to my homeland and chose the profession of my heart – that of a forester,” Bagrin declared.

He also spoke about the challenges of the job, including the lack of seasonal workers, the high risks associated with working in the field, and the massive responsibility of protecting the forests. “A forester must have peace of mind and patience. Without these qualities, it is difficult to resist, because problems arise every day,” the man said.
A typical day of his activity includes patrolling a sector of over 500 hectares, checking access to the forest, guarding against illegal logging, preparing food for the animals, and preventing fires. “In winter, we take care to distribute food in feeders. In summer, we prepare foliage, and we constantly monitor fire risks,” Bagrin explained.

Passionate and dedicated, Gheorghe Bagrin, "The Best Forester of 2025," expresses his desire to continue serving the forest for as long as his health permits. "It's a job that brings joy to my heart, and I hope we have the strength and health to move forward," he concluded.
