Dodon vows 'tough opposition' to Moldova's PAS government

The parliamentary opposition will only support projects that improve the lives of citizens, such as salary increases or infrastructure investments, but not the geopolitical initiatives promoted by the ruling party/government, according to Igor Dodon, leader of the "Patriotic" electoral bloc.

"Any measure that benefits the people must be supported. All socio-economic measures that lead to an improvement in the quality of life and the economic situation should be backed. For example, salary increases for doctors, educators, or investment projects—these must be supported," Dodon told the Rlive.md news outlet during an interview.

The former president also stressed that the "Patriotic" bloc will not cooperate with the Action and Solidarity Party in forming the new government.

"We will never vote for a PAS government, in any form. We will be in tough opposition to the ruling parliamentary majority. But that doesn't mean we will oppose logical projects that are for the people," said the party leader.

Igor Dodon also stated that he will not resign his parliamentary seat, as he did in 2021, and will concentrate his priorities on social and economic projects.

Regarding the country's European path, the BEP leader warns that the European Union is facing a major economic crisis, which could inevitably affect the Republic of Moldova. He also argues that the prolongation of the war in Ukraine and Brussels' strategy to militarily support Kyiv represent a serious risk to the country's security.

"I believe the situation in the EU will generally worsen, especially from an economic standpoint. There will no longer be money even for internal reforms. We see that social benefits are being reduced in Germany, and in France, the budget is so difficult that there is even talk of canceling some holidays, such as International Women's Day. This crisis in the EU will also influence the situation in the Republic of Moldova," Dodon declared.

The PAS leader, Igor Grosu, has announced that the main priority of the new legislature, after the validation of the vote by the Constitutional Court, will be the approval of the Budget Law, so that the Republica Moldova can enter 2026 with a budget already adopted. Regarding cooperation with the opposition, Igor Grosu mentioned that his party is open to parliamentary collaboration with all formations that support European integration initiatives and government projects.
