Munich Airport: Drone sightings ground flights during Oktoberfest

Munich Airport was temporarily closed overnight into 3 October after multiple witnesses reported sightings of drones near, and then directly over, the runways.
According to the German Federal Police, 17 flights were cancelled, and approximately 3,000 passengers were affected.
Following the incident, all runways were temporarily closed. German federal and state police searched the area, deploying a helicopter, but failed to identify the flying object or any suspects. It is unclear whether it was a single drone or several.
The incident occurred during the peak of Oktoberfest, the city's popular beer festival, which draws thousands of visitors from around the globe.
Drone incidents across Europe
The Munich incident is not isolated. In September, Denmark recorded several flights by unidentified drones over airports and military installations. European authorities suspect possible Russian involvement, a charge Moscow denies.
In recent weeks, Poland, Estonia and Romania – all members of the Nato alliance – have also recorded incursions by Russian drones and military aircraft into their airspace.
On 2 October, at the European Political Community summit in Copenhagen, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy warned that Russia could use drones anywhere on the continent.
