Moldova's best homemade wine awarded at National Wine Day

The National Wine Day festival in Chișinău will conclude this weekend with an awards ceremony for the "Golden Barrel" (Polobocul de Aur) Contest, honouring Moldova's best homemade wine producers.
The 24th edition of the two-day event, held on October 4 and 5 in the centre of Chișinău, is set to bring together a record 106 wineries, including 43 small local producers.
A total of 450 homemade wines were submitted for the contest, with 84 reaching the final national round. The Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCI) announced the grand prize is a 100-litre barrel, to be presented by top industry experts.
The CCI of the Republic of Moldova organises the annual "Golden Barrel" Contest to promote the tradition of homemade wine, recognise top producers, raise consumer standards, and facilitate knowledge exchange among local winemakers.
The festival programme includes a Wine School (interactive sessions with certified sommeliers), the Peasant's Yard (workshops on folk crafts and traditions), and Wine Tours to Moldova's vineyards.
In an effort to make the festival more sustainable, this year marks the first time the Taster's Booklet—the required access ticket for wine tasting—will be available only in digital format.
The event is sponsored by the National Office for Vine and Wine (ONVV), the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry, the Ministry of Culture, the Ukraine-Moldova American Enterprise Fund (UMAEF), and maib.
