A volunteer fire and rescue station opened in Zubrești

In Zubrești, located in the Strașeni district, a new Territorial Volunteer Rescue and Fire Station was inaugurated. This initiative aims to enhance community safety and improve emergency response capabilities. The total investment for the project was approximately three million lei. The Zubrești Volunteer Rescue and Fire Station will serve four localities.

The community station building has all the conditions according to European standards and is equipped with a study room, kitchen, rest room, bathroom and the necessary furniture. At the same time, the station was equipped with a special vehicle received as a donation from Poland, for which a storage shed was built.

The Zubrești rescue and fire station will serve the localities: Zubrești, Voinova, Chirianca and Recea, covering an extensive area of the Strașeni district. By making it operational, over 12,400 citizens will benefit from increased safety and faster response times in the event of fires, emergencies, or other risk situations.

Ten volunteer firefighters will be active within the station, prepared to intervene promptly in case of fires or other emergencies, they will act as the first line of response until the arrival of professional fire crews. IGSU trainers trained the volunteers in a specialized course, where they acquired practical skills in extinguishing fires, providing first aid, and rescuing people from road accidents.

The Secretary of State of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Victor Grosu, present at the inauguration event, emphasized that the creation and development of community fire stations represent essential actions in the effort to reduce disaster risks and protect citizens throughout the country.

For his part, the Head of the General Inspectorate for Emergencies (IGSU), Colonel Aurel Baciu, mentioned that the opening of this station is not just an investment in equipment or infrastructure, but a direct contribution to the safety of citizens, to the resilience of the community and to the ability to intervene promptly and efficiently in emergency situations. At the same time, the official reaffirmed IGSU's commitment to expanding the network of volunteer fire stations nationwide.

The Zubrești post was built from the ground up, within the EU4Moldova Resilience initiative, thanks to the financial assistance of the European Union and the Solidarity Fund PL Foundation, as well as the contribution of local public authorities and the Strașeni District Council within the framework of the implementation of the pilot project “Strengthening the Civil Protection System in the Republic of Moldova”.

The total cost of the investment amounted to approximately 3 million lei, with the Solidarity Fund PL Foundation in Moldova contributing 1.94 million lei through the Polish Aid Democracy Support program.

The Zubrești rescue and fire station is the 81st territorial station and the 22nd active volunteer station. Currently, there are 81 territorial rescue and fire stations in the Republic of Moldova, of which 64 are operational, 59 employ civilian staff, and 22 operate on a volunteer basis.

In 2025, the territorial rescue and fire stations responded to over 770 fires, significantly contributing to limiting material damage and protecting the lives of citizens.
