Sanctions: PDA loses state funding for another year; Năstase and Crețu to repay tens of thousands of lei

The "Democracy at Home" Party (PDA) will not receive state funding until November 2027. In addition, former independent candidates from the September 28 parliamentary elections, Andrei Năstase and Tatiana Crețu, were ordered to transfer amounts of 5,926 lei and 24,600 lei, respectively, to the state budget. These sanctions were imposed by the Central Electoral Commission (CEC) on October 5, following an analysis of the final financial reports submitted by electoral competitors during the campaign.

Thus, after the October 3 meeting, PDA was deprived of allocations from the state budget for a period of 12 months, starting with November 2025, today the period was extended by another 12 months, starting with November 2026, for not reporting expenses on the internet during the electoral campaign.

PDA leader, Vasile Costiuc, reproached CEC members for having been previously sanctioned for not reporting expenses on TokTok, a decision he challenged in court. Costiuc also claims that his party is being wronged, given that no other electoral competitors have reported such expenses, and the authorities do not have reliable data on the accounts on this social network that promoted various electoral competitors in the campaign. He believes that Parliament must regulate online activities to prevent such problems in the future.

Also, Tatiana Crețu was warned. She will have to transfer to the state budget the amount of 24,600 lei that she illegally transferred, after the elections, from the independent candidate's account to her own individual account. Andrei Năstase was also warned and will have to pay to the state budget the amount of 5,926 lei that she illegally transferred from the electoral account to that of SRL “Glasul Națiunii”.

At the same meeting, CEC members applied warnings to numerous electoral competitors who admitted financial violations during the electoral campaign.

For example, the Action and Solidarity Party and the "Together" Bloc were issued warnings for violating the conditions and manner of financial support for initiative groups and electoral campaigns, the "Alliance for the Unity of Romanians" Party and the Christian-Social Union Party of Moldova - warnings.

At the same time, the National Liberal Party and the "ACASĂ" National Reunification Party, components of the Unirea Națiunii Bloc, were deprived of allocations from the state budget for the performances obtained in the parliamentary elections of September 28 for a period of six months, starting from May 2026.

We note that the five competitors who exceeded the electoral threshold and are to form the future Parliament spent millions of lei on their electoral campaign.

According to the reports submitted to the CEC, the Action and Solidarity Party spent over 17.5 million lei, the "Patriotic" Electoral Bloc - over 10 million lei, the "Alternative" Bloc - 7.9 million lei, Our Party - about 5.5 million lei, and the "Democracy at Home" Party - over 190 thousand lei.
