A new service focusing on personal hygiene was opened in the city of Leova. It provides residents with the chance to wash their laundry for free while also offering a space for social interaction. Additionally, the service features facilities designed to accommodate people with disabilities, the elderly, and families in need.

The service is equipped with high-performance washing machines, dryers, sinks and shower cabins, and the space has been furnished with the necessary furniture for the comfort of the beneficiaries, the administrator of the Public Association "Social Partnership" Svetlana Petică told Radio Moldova. She says that the laundry service is functional and already serves beneficiaries from the city, as well as from the localities amalgamated within the municipality.

"The idea came as a project proposal. I discussed it with the city hall and the mayor and I considered it a very good initiative for the development of this service in the city of Leova, to support the population. The laundry has washing machines, dryers and shower cabins, all built from scratch. We created special conditions for people with disabilities, the elderly and families at risk", Svetlana Petică said.

The representative of the organisation "Social Partnership" stated that, in the future, it is planned to expand the service and provide it with a transport system that would help residents of the amalgamated villages reach the laundry services more easily. She claims that this will be an essential support for the elderly.

"Yes, the services are free. The project was implemented by the Association in partnership with the City Hall of Leova. The laundry is functional, so the elderly and other beneficiaries can come with their laundry baskets and use the already existing services", added Svetlana Petică.

To date, 16 similar social laundry services opened in the Republic of Moldova, in localities such as Zubrești, Cobâlea, Ciuciuleni, Șeptelici.
