Starting March 1, 2026, doctors and specialists will issue medical leave certificates in digital format, which will be available online. Upon request, they can also provide a printed version with a QR code that allows authenticity verification.

The Cabinet of Ministers has approved new regulations on determining temporary work incapacity and issuing medical leave certificates. The document aims to simplify the issuance process so that patients receive fast, transparent services and doctors can perform their duties efficiently, reads a government statement.

Insured individuals, employers, and healthcare providers will have digital access to medical certificates through the following government platforms: the Medical Leave Certificate Portal, the Government Citizen Portal, the EVO application, and the Legal Entities Portal. Employers will also receive automatic notifications about the initiation and progress of certificate issuance.

Each year in the Republic of Moldova, over 420,000 medical leave certificates are issued, and their printing costs more than 1.4 million lei annually. Manual processing of certificates takes between 15 minutes and one hour per case, reads the statement.
