Moldovan companies invested over €80 million in Romania

Trade and economic exchanges between the Republic of Moldova and Romania continue to show positive growth. The total value of bilateral trade between the two countries is approximately € 3 billion, making Romania one of Moldova's key trading partners. Moldovan companies have invested over 80 million euros in Romania, according to Victor Chirilă, the Ambassador of the Republic of Moldova to Romania. In recent years, an increasing number of Moldovan companies have been introducing their products to the Romanian market, opening representative offices, and having their products featured in large retail networks across Romania.
Many business people choose the Romanian market because it is very close to that of the Republic of Moldova, says healthcare entrepreneur Silvia Sidor, a member of the Association of the Bassarabians Club in Romania. According to her, Moldovan entrepreneurs have several benefits from expanding to the market across the Prut.
“Many of us haven’t travelled very far. There’s also the language, which is the same language, and of course, we can’t help but take this into account. We’re not very far away, and then we’re close enough. And here, I think many of us see Romania as a business partner, because once we speak the same language, we’re very close, neighboring countries, we can support each other much more easily, meaning, often, 5-6 hours to get home, to Chisinau, and in Romania, from one city to another, you can travel 5-6 hours. So, it’s a very, very short distance,” says Silvia Sidor.
The Romanian market is a locomotive for entrepreneurs across the Prut and contributes to the country's economic development, said the Ambassador of the Republic of Moldova to Bucharest, Victor Chirilă. As the Republic of Moldova gains greater access to the European Union market, our trade is expected to develop even further, the diplomat said.
"In recent years, more and more companies from the Republic of Moldova are bringing their products to the Romanian market, opening their representative offices, especially fruit producers are increasingly present, wine producers are increasingly present, and the food industry, too. The interest of producers from the Republic of Moldova in the Romanian market is growing and this depends, first of all, on access to the Romanian market. Once, from the moment they expand their businesses in Romania, production capacities also increase, new jobs are also opened for our citizens".
Also, Victor Chirilă said that an example of successful collaboration is when last year producers from the Republic of Moldova started exporting poultry meat to Romania and one of the large commercial networks purchased a large quantity to be sold in Romania. Moreover, he said that as these exports expand, localities in the Republic of Moldova will also benefit, with increased employment opportunities at these companies.
