Restaurant chain fined over 800,000 lei; also paid 1.4 million lei in remaining VAT

Three administrators of a chain of dozens of restaurants across the country were fined over 800,000 lei for concealing income and failing to pay VAT. They transferred the remaining 1.4 million lei, representing unpaid VAT, to the state budget.

According to the Prosecutor's Office for Combating Organised Crime and Special Cases (PCCOCS), the three administrators tried to avoid paying VAT for the period December 2023-June 2024. Following searches conducted last summer, the authorities identified over 18 million lei unreported in the company's accounting records.

The investigation revealed that the unpaid VAT amounted to 1.4 million lei, an amount that the administrators were obligated to transfer to the state budget.

"Although the three administrators and the company admitted their guilt and fulfilled their tax obligations for the evasion committed, according to the law, the prosecutors sent the file for examination to the Chisinau Court. The court issued a conviction sentence", reads a press release issued by the PCCOCS.

Thus, each of the three administrators was fined over 166,000 lei, and the company received a fine of over 300,000 lei.
