Over 70 international experts discuss new cancer treatment methods in Chisinau

Over 70 international specialists in the field of oncology gathered in Chisinau, within the framework of the National Oncology Congress, organized between October 9 and 10. The event, dedicated to the 65th anniversary of the founding of the Oncology Institute, debates the latest methods of cancer diagnosis and treatment, as well as international collaborations that contribute to the development of performance medicine in the Republic of Moldova.

The congress program includes plenary sessions, presentations focused on the latest methods of diagnosis, treatment and research, as well as on the transposition of scientific advances into effective treatments.

“The congress is dedicated to the 65th anniversary of the founding of the Oncology Institute. It is a congress with international participation, given that we have Speakers from Romania, Spain, France, England, Belgium, practically from all over Europe, in the field of oncology – surgeons, medical oncologists, specialists in ensuring the quality of services for oncological patients”, stated, for Radio Moldova, doctor Victor Șchiopu, associate professor at the Department of Oncology of the “Nicolae Testemițanu” State University of Medicine and Pharmacy.

According to him, the Oncological Institute, as the only institution specialised in the diagnosis and treatment of oncological patients, has achieved good results. This congress provides Moldovan specialists with the opportunity to demonstrate to the world that high-performance medicine is also practised in the Republic of Moldova.

The doctor mentioned that the symposium, which brought together professors and specialists from the country and abroad, will focus on presenting the latest results in the field of diagnosis and treatment of oncological diseases.

"Topics from paediatrics, urology, digestive tract surgery, including the upper digestive tract and colorectal surgery, as well as mammology, will be addressed. The event will thus cover all the main systems and fields of oncology", Victor Șchiopu told journalist Natalia Mogîldea from Radio Moldova.

Delia Nicoară, a specialist in public health and management at the Oncological Institute in Cluj-Napoca, Romania, is also participating in the event. She mentioned that the partnership between the Oncology Institute in Cluj and the one in Chisinau has developed in the area of breast cancer patient care, with the unit in Cluj being accredited by the German Cancer Society. The collaboration will continue on the segment of quality indicators.

“The exchange of information is as bidirectional as possible, meaning that we also learn from the Oncology Institute in Chisinau, and the Oncology Institute in Chisinau learns from the Oncology Institute in Cluj – a perfect collaboration”, concluded Delia Nicoară, on Radio Moldova.
