Ukraine 5-3 Iceland: World Cup qualifiers Group D results

A dramatic match took place in the European zone of next year's World Cup qualifiers.
In Group D, Ukraine won a thrilling 5-3 victory away to Iceland. The "Zhovto-Blakytni" led 1-0 and 3-1, but were pegged back each time. Coach Serhiy Rebrov's side scored late through Ivan Kaliuzhnyi and Oleh Ocheretko to secure all three points.
Following this victory, Ukraine climbed to second place in the table with four points, one more than Iceland. Also in this quartet, France won 3-0 against Azerbaijan thanks to goals from Kylian Mbappé, Adrien Rabiot and Florian Thauvin. The latter returned to Les Bleus after a six-year absence. France have maximum points after three rounds and will play in Iceland on 13 October.
In Group A, Germany beat Luxembourg 4-0 at home, after the visitors played most of the match a man down following the sending-off of Dirk Carlson. Slovakia, who had managed to defeat Germany in the first round, lost 0-2 to Northern Ireland, and all three sides now have six points.
In Group B, Switzerland won 2-0 in Sweden, with goals from Granit Xhaka and 19-year-old Johan Manzambi in the final half-hour. In the table, Switzerland have nine points, Kosovo four, Slovenia two, and Sweden a single point.
A semi-surprise in Group J saw Belgium were held to a goalless draw by North Macedonia in Ghent. Following the draw, the Red Devils are second in the table, one point behind North Macedonia, having played a game fewer.
