Ungheni customs officers foil cigarette smuggling attempt on Chișinău–Bucharest train
A 46-year-old man from Moldova is facing criminal investigation after he attempted to smuggle a shipment of cigarettes out of the country. He hid the cigarettes in the ceiling of a carriage on the "Chisinau-Bucharest" train. The smuggling attempt was thwarted at the Ungheni customs post.
After the border control check, the joint intervention team discovered 249 packs of undeclared cigarettes. These tobacco products, bearing the excise stamp of the Republic of Moldova, were hidden in the ceiling of the wagon attendant's cabin.
The cigarettes were seized, and investigations are ongoing to determine all the circumstances and identify those involved in the smuggling attempt.
