Moldovan Government spokesperson resigns ahead of parliamentary validation

The Moldovan Government's spokesperson, Daniel Vodă, has delivered a farewell address following the Cabinet's final meeting before the results of the recent parliamentary elections are validated.

Mr Vodă, who had held the position since February 2023, announced that he had organised 118 press conferences during his tenure, and used the opportunity to express his gratitude to colleagues, the media, and the public.

Speaking on Wednesday, 15 October, Mr Vodă thanked all staff within the Government's Communication Directorate and other public institutions, acknowledging the large team behind the weekly briefings.

"While you frequently saw me, we were together and alongside a very large team of people who may not have been seen, but who always performed their work with respect and a sense of duty," he said.

The outgoing spokesperson also thanked the Republic of Moldova's media, including journalists from TV, radio, and the written press, for officially covering the Executive's activities, specifically mentioning the State News Agency, Moldpres.

He urged the public to continue to get information from "the primary source and from all the available platforms of public authorities," concluding that serving the people had been an "incredible honor."

The meeting, led by Prime Minister Dorin Recean, was the Cabinet's last session before the Constitutional Court was due to validate the results of the 28 September parliamentary elections. Upon the validation of the new deputies’ mandates, the Government's powers will become limited.
