Alexandru Cazacu, guitarist of the legendary band "Noroc", died

Renowned musician Alexandru Cazacu, the guitarist of the band "Noroc" and a People's Artist, has passed away. As a member of one of the most emblematic bands in the Republic of Moldova's light music scene, Alexandru Cazacu significantly influenced an entire era in the history of local music with his exceptional talent.

Alexandru Cazacu was born on November 7, 1949, in the village of Acui, Cantemir district. He began his musical studies at the local school, then at the “Ștefan Neaga” Music College, in the bayan class. In 1967, he won first place at the Republican Bayanist Competition, a prize with which he bought his first guitar – the instrument that would consecrate him.

After being admitted to the Conservatory, he was invited by Mihai Dolgan to join the band “Noroc”, becoming, between 1969 and 1980, the solo guitarist of the ensemble. Together with his brother, Anatol Cazacu, he defined the band’s unmistakable sound and participated in numerous international tours and festivals, reads a press release from the Ministry of Culture.

Throughout his career, Alexandru Cazacu has collaborated with renowned artists and bands from the former Soviet Union and Romania, including Iuri Antonov, "Vesiolîie rebeata", Sofia Rotaru, "Mondial" and "Phoenix". Returning to the country in the 1990s, he worked as a sound director at the Palace of the Republic, and in 2008 he released, together with his brother, the album "Remember". A year later, he began an artistic collaboration with his son, the leader of the band "Dor".

For his contribution to the development of musical art, Alexandru Cazacu was awarded, in 2009, the honorary title "People's Artist".

"The musical culture of the Republic of Moldova loses an artist of great talent and refinement, a man who dedicated his entire life to the stage and the audience. A legend of Luck", declared the Minister of Culture, Sergiu Prodan.

Guitarist Alexandru Cazacu, through his sounds, wrote part of the golden history of Moldovan music, according to the Ministry of Culture's press release.
