New water kiosks boost Moldova rural access

Moldova is launching a scheme to improve water access for thousands of citizens by installing modern water treatment systems across rural communities.

The project, officially named “Decentralized Drinking Water Supply for Moldova,” will select beneficiary communities through a competition running until 12 November.

The initiative will install modern Q-DROP Yellowstone water treatment units capable of purifying ambient water at a rate of 500 litres per hour.

Applicants must submit files in person to their local Regional Development Agency (RDA), according to the Ministry of Infrastructure and Regional Development. The files must adhere to the format and structure detailed in the Application Guide.

Further details on conditions and the Application Guide are available via the project website.

The project aims to enhance access to drinking water in rural areas by installing 85 water kiosks. The kiosks will serve at least 55,000 citizens, targeting areas where current infrastructure prevents adequate access to clean water.

A €12 million loan agreement, signed in June, sealed the deal between the government and Evert Maréchal, the Belgian Ambassador.
