Penitentiary No. 13 employee convicted for aiding inmate’s escape “out of pity”

A former officer at Penitentiary No. 13 in Chisinau has been convicted of supplying prohibited items to a female inmate, whom he assisted in escaping. According to the sentence issued by the Chisinau Court, he will serve three years of detention, with part of the sentence conditionally suspended. Additionally, he will be prohibited from working within the National Penitentiary Administration for four years.
The Chisinau City Prosecutor's Office reported that in April of this year, a 24-year-old officer, while on duty, provided a Ukrainian inmate with a phone and a SIM card. Two months later, he assisted her escape from prison by giving her money and a Ukrainian ID card that he had stolen from her file.
In court, the young man admitted to his actions and expressed that his motivation was "pity" for the inmate.
The former employee of Penitentiary No. 13 in Chisinau has been sentenced to two years in prison, with part of the sentence suspended and a one-year probationary period.
