Sentence in the Ismail Str. gun incident: 15 years in prison for attempted murder

A man from Chisinau was sentenced to 15 years in a closed prison for opening fire on a street and injuring a drunk neighbor last April. The sentence was for attempted murder and included a partial addition of a previously unserved sentence related to a drug offense.

The Chisinau City Prosecutor's Office has reported that an incident occurred on Ismail Street. A drunken man damaged the intercom at the entrance of a residential building with a hammer and verbally insulted a nearby resident. The resident confronted the man and wounded him in the chest with a gun.

In court, the defendant, a 44-year-old man, stated that he did not intend to kill the assailant but only wanted to scare him. However, the judges determined that the evidence presented indicated an intention to kill.

In addition to the prison sentence, the court imposed a supplementary penalty. The defendant, who had previously been investigated for drug-related offences, will be prohibited from holding positions or engaging in activities related to the administration and management of drugs, similar substances, or strong-effect medicines for a period of three years.

The verdict of the lower court can be appealed to the Centru Court of Appeal.
