Former ASP employee detained by CNA for corruption in Călărași driving license case

A former employee of the Public Services Agency (ASP) was detained for 72 hours by officers of the National Anticorruption Center (CNA), jointly with Chisinau prosecutors, in the criminal case targeting systemic corruption in the issuance of driving licenses in the Calarasi district. Law enforcement officers have documented dozens of cases of issuing driving licenses for amounts ranging between 500 and 700 euros.
The former ASP employee was placed in the CNA's criminal investigation cell. According to the institution, law enforcement officers conducted searches in the city of Ungheni on Monday, October 20, from where they seized other objects and documents relevant to the case.
We recall that on October 15, the CNA conducted over 50 searches in the same file. Following the criminal investigation, three people were detained for 72 hours, and later the court issued 30-day pre-trial detention orders for two people, one of whom was placed under house arrest.
According to investigators, 53 candidates for a driving license, the administrator of a driving school in Călărași, the institution's secretary, three examiners, a driving instructor and a former ASP employee are being investigated for active corruption, passive corruption and influence peddling.
Prosecutors allege that the scheme involved demanding and receiving sums of money between 500 and 700 euros to ensure passing the theoretical and practical exams required to obtain driving licenses.
The CNA and prosecutors continue their investigations to identify all the individuals involved and establish the entire criminal chain, as well as to recover the illegally obtained sums.
