Socialist Zinaida Greceanîi returns to the parliamentary rostrum after Nicolae Botgros declined to chair the inaugural session of the new Parliament

The meeting to establish the new Parliament is scheduled for October 22. It will be chaired by Zinaida Greceanîi from the Socialist Party, as both the oldest dean, Vladimir Voronin (84 years old), and conductor Nicolae Botgros (73 years old) have declined to take on the role.

Thus, Zinaida Greceanîi, aged 69, will return to the central tribune of the Parliament, after leading the legislative forum of the Republic of Moldova between 2019 and 2021.

Requested by Teleradio-Moldova, representatives of the Parliament's Press Service told us that the conductor of the "Lăutarii" Orchestra, elected deputy on the list of the Action and Solidarity Party in the parliamentary elections of September 28, refused to chair the session to establish the new Parliament.

However, on Monday, October 20, at noon, Nicolae Botgros declared to Teleradio-Moldova that he would be "honored" to chair the first session of the 12th legislature of the Parliament.

"I don't know yet, I'll talk to the Parliament Speaker (Igor Grosu - editor's note) and then we'll see. I accept, I definitely accept. No problem, how can I not accept? I do my duty as every man, every citizen does his duty, especially since I have such an honor to be a parliamentarian, to be in Parliament. That's not even up for discussion", Nicolae Botgros told us before the Legislature announced that he would not chair the October 22 session.

We note that the session to establish the new Parliament will be attended by the President of the Republic of Moldova, Maia Sandu, the 101 elected deputies, members of the Constitutional Court, members of the Central Electoral Commission, and representatives of the diplomatic corps accredited in Chisinau.

At the beginning of the session, the President of the Constitutional Court, Domnica Manole, will present the report on the election results and the validation of the mandates of the elected deputies. From the moment of presenting this report, the Parliament will be considered legally constituted.

Subsequently, the President of the Republic of Moldova, Maia Sandu, will address a message to the deputies of the 12th legislature of the Parliament.

The next stage provides for the formation of parliamentary factions (minimum five deputies each – ed.), within 10 days after the legal constitution of the Parliament.

Next, the election of the Parliament Speaker, the Vice-Presidents and the formation of the Standing Bureau of the Parliament follows. The latter decides on the establishment of permanent committees. The Parliament will decide on the number of committees, the name, the numerical and nominal composition of each committee, upon the proposal of the Standing Bureau.
