Constantin Țuțu's trial postponed: prosecutors accuse lawyers of delay

Constantin Țuțu, previously detained in Greece alongside Vladimir Plahotniuc, was brought to court on Monday, escorted by masked men from "Fulger". He continues to plead not guilty. Prosecutors believe that the defense is trying to delay the trial.

"I crossed the border legally, I left legally, and I returned legally. Everything that is happening is a fabrication; that’s all I can say."
However, the court hearing concluded in just a few minutes. Țuțu's lawyers requested time to review the case materials, which the court granted. Additionally, the judges decided that the subsequent hearings would take place in Țuțu's absence.
"We will familiarize ourselves with the case materials and then prepare the defense position," said lawyer Iulian Timotin. When asked if they would manage to review the volumes that implicate him by the 28th, he replied, "Partially."
According to the prosecution, this could serve as a tactic to delay the trial.
"It is a method of prolonging the examination of the case by both the lawyers and the defendant, which is why we have insisted on maintaining the lawyer appointed by the state, to prevent any unwarranted delays caused by the defense attorneys in the future," stated Elena Cazacov, the prosecutor of the case.
It is important to note that Constantin Țuțu and Vladimir Plahotniuc were detained at Athens airport on July 22, 2025, while attempting to travel to Dubai. Following this, Plahotniuc was extradited to his home country, while Țuțu remained detained at the border. Plahotniuc is facing four criminal cases, while Țuțu is involved in two cases currently pending in court.
