Moldova: New Parliament vows reforms and focus on EU accession

Ahead of the new Parliament’s inaugural session, Moldovan lawmakers pledged to meet the expectations of the electorate.

Opposition representatives have called for real reforms, social projects, and a more united opposition, while the ruling Action and Solidarity Party (PAS) majority aims to continue its pro-European course and promote social inclusion.

Renato Usatîi: "We will be a real, but constructive, opposition"

The leader of Our Party, Renato Usatîi, said his party was entering Parliament "to push for real reforms and to show citizens what true opposition means."

"We will be an opposition party, but one that will support all positive and well-founded initiatives, in the interest of the citizens of the Republic of Moldova and our state."

Vasile Costiuc: "This is our European path" Vasile Costiuc, a lawmaker from the Democracy at Home party, affirmed his commitment to supporting European integration initiatives. "Certainly, this is our path—the one we were voted in for. We'll collaborate with the Moldovan citizens who delegated us, and we'll continue engaging with them. From there, we will take draft laws to be submitted to Parliament."

Alexandr Stoianoglo: "People want real changes"

Alexandr Stoianoglo, a representative of the National Alternative Movement (MAN), stated that his party’s key priorities are "aligned with the needs of ordinary people."

"The elections showed that people want changes. We have prepared projects that address people's needs, and we will register and promote them in the coming days."

Diana Caraman: "We will propose social projects to defend citizens' rights"

Diana Caraman, a lawmaker from the Communist Party of the Republic of Moldova (PCRM), said her team's priority remains improving living standards.

"Firstly, the quality of life for citizens. We have a record number of people who are on the brink of poverty. In this regard, we will propose a series of social projects to defend citizens' rights."

Vlad Batrîncea: "The opposition must consolidate"

PSRM Vice President Vlad Batrîncea said the Socialists aim to contribute to strengthening the parliamentary opposition. "We will be active in strengthening the opposition. We believe the opposition must unite its efforts to prevent wrongdoing, ensure transparency, and expose existing problems."

Ludmila Adamciuc: "I will continue my journey from civil society"

PAS lawmaker Ludmila Adamciuc said she intended to continue her focus on civil society, particularly on supporting children with disabilities. "I am very emotional about everything that is to come, but I will be just as transparent as I was in civil society." She added that she intends to open more centres for children with disabilities and support their parents.

Anastasia Nichita: "My dream is an Olympic training centre"

World wrestling champion and PAS lawmaker, Anastasia Nichita, said she hopes to contribute to developing sports infrastructure. "I really hope to contribute to the construction of an Olympic training centre. In fact, that's my dream now, not just as an athlete, but as a lawmaker. Emotions are running high, but that's natural—this is not the wrestling mat."

Radu Marian: "We are focusing on European Union accession and economic growth"

PAS lawmaker Radu Marian noted that the current legislature has an intensive agenda, dominated by the goal of European Union accession. "We have an enormous amount of work ahead of us. We recently looked at the list of documents we need to approve as part of the EU accession process, and obviously, it will be an extremely demanding schedule."
