Vladimir Bolea: First low-cost flight from Mărculești "in a year" and train to Chișinău airport by Easter

The first low-cost flight could take off from the airport in Mărculești, Florești district, in a year, announced acting Deputy Prime Minister Vladimir Bolea on Friday, October 24, in a press conference during which he presented the report of the activity of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Regional Development (MIDR) over the past four years. Also, the official stated that the new train route that is to connect the center of Chisinau to the "Eugen Doga" International Airport - Chisinau will be launched in the spring of 2026, this being included in the 1.9 billion euro Economic Growth Plan, financed by the European Union.
According to Vladimir Bolea, after the takeover of the management of the Mărculești airport by the Chișinău airport, the process of transferring the goods is currently taking place, and the launch of the first commercial flights is expected for next year.
"The process of receiving and transferring the goods to the Chișinău airport is just beginning. It is expected within a year, but there are more discussions," Vladimir Bolea said.
Train from the center of the capital to the airport
At the same time, the official provided new details about the project of the train line that will connect the center of the capital with the Chișinău airport, noting that preparatory work is already underway.
This could be launched "by Easter, in 2026", but the deadlines depend on the degree and technical condition of the trains that are under repair, Bolea said.
Revaca Station is undergoing rehabilitation, and will be equipped with a parking area and direct connections to the center of Chisinau.
"The interconnection of the airport with the center of Chisinau is one of the projects included in the Growth Plan. We have approached a Japanese company to come up with a technical solution on how to get to the airport by train," the acting deputy prime minister revealed.
According to him, buses will also be purchased to transfer passengers between Revaca Station and the airport terminal, in order to decongest traffic at the entrance to the capital.
MIDR report: record investments in roads, villages and transport
According to Vladimir Bolea, who headed the Ministry of Infrastructure and Regional Development over the past year, the Republic of Moldova has attracted record investments in infrastructure, through programs to modernize roads, expand water and sewage networks, and develop the transport sector.
"We have concluded a mandate that has changed not only the country's infrastructural maps, but also the way in which the state responds to people's needs. At the center of our actions has always been the man, the citizen", said Vladimir Bolea.
At the same conference, the acting deputy prime minister pointed out that over 1,300 local projects have been carried out through the "European Village" and "European Village Express" programs, worth a total of five billion lei.
At the same time, national and regional roads have been rehabilitated over a distance of hundreds of kilometers, with the support of international partners. Also, the Republic of Moldova was included in the Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T), which opens access to European funds for infrastructure modernization.
The official also stated that the "Eugen Doga" International Airport - Chisinau, returned to state management, exceeded the figure of five million passengers in 2025, and international railway routes such as Chisinau - Bucharest and Chisinau - Kiev were relaunched.
At the same time, the new Urban Planning and Construction Code, adopted at the end of 2024, eliminated the principle of "tacit authorization" and introduced tougher sanctions for illegal constructions.
"Behind illegal constructions stand thousands of citizens of the Republic of Moldova with broken fates, lost money and the lack of ability to receive the property they bought", concluded Vladimir Bolea.
We remind you that Vladimir Bolea is ending his mandate as Deputy Prime Minister and Minister in the Government led by Dorin Recean. Bolea recently confirmed, on Moldova 1 TV, that he could also be part of the Government led by Alexandru Munteanu, which is expected to be inaugurated by the end of next week.
