Analyst Mihai Isac on Moldova 1 TV: Government inauguration – the opposition’s moment of truth

The appointment of economist Alexandru Munteanu as prime minister poses a challenge to the political maturity of opposition parties that identify as pro-European, according to Black Sea analyst Mihai Isac. In an interview with Moldova 1 TV, he highlighted that the upcoming government will face a challenging mandate, characterized by intricate domestic and geopolitical issues, along with a strategic mission to strengthen the country's European path.
The inauguration of the Government will be a test of the opposition's sincerity, which declares itself pro-European.
"Very many deputies who are not part of PAS loudly claim that they are pro-European. When the moment of truth comes, when a series of measures aimed at bringing the Republic of Moldova closer to the European Union are put on the table, then we will see their true intentions", the expert emphasized, anticipating that Alexandru Munteanu "will be the target of parliamentary guerrilla campaigns based on procedure or any other means".
At the same time, the analyst called for a responsible attitude of the opposition deputies.
"It remains to be seen how the people from the parliamentary groups that belong to the opposition and who entered the Parliament for the first time will get involved in solving the problems of the citizens of the Republic of Moldova. It is a new breath, it is an interesting breath and we hope that the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova will not turn into an arena for cheap shows on TikTok or other networks", said Mihai Isac.
According to Isac, the future Executive cannot be considered a technocrat, given the mandate and parliamentary support the designated prime minister enjoys.
"It is also normal for the future prime minister to bring his own team or as many people as possible to form his own team. Certainly, some of these positions will be discussed with the members of the PAS leadership, because this political support is needed", said Mihai Isac, insisting that "it is imperative that the people who will take over the ministerial mandates are not people who will leave these positions in a few months".
"The reforms that need to be implemented in the Republic of Moldova require great personal conviction, because we see how any attempt to reform the Republic of Moldova, regardless of the field, immediately falls under the crosshairs of the Russian Federation's propaganda", the analyst also said.
In his opinion, the new Government will have to navigate a difficult period marked by complex internal and geopolitical challenges.
"Major reforms in the judiciary, territorial-administrative reform are coming. We also see the need to launch the process of integrating, in fact politically, the region under illegal Russian military occupation in the east of the Republic of Moldova. There are a lot of files on the table of the future Prime Minister", stressed Mihai Isac.
Regarding the relationship with the Presidency, the analyst expects that Maia Sandu will also be involved in coordinating and publicising government activities.
"Considering that we are all in the same boat and want to move towards the European Union, it is expected that any institutional difficulties will be resolved as quickly as possible", concluded Mihai Isac.
After rounds of consultations with parliamentary factions, President Maia Sandu designated economist Alexandru Munteanu as the prime ministerial candidate. The future Government will most likely be sworn in by the end of next week, according to the head of the PAS parliamentary faction, Doina Gherman.
