Fake “citation” emails: Police expose fraud scheme
The General Inspectorate of Police warns citizens about a new online scam scheme, through which cybercriminals send fake emails using the institution's name and logos to mislead recipients.
According to the Police, the messages contain a so-called "summons" accusing the person concerned of committing a crime. Subsequently, the senders request personal data, confidential information or even money, under the pretext of avoiding punishment.
The authorities urge the population to be vigilant, to always verify information only from official sources and not to respond to such messages. Citizens are also asked not to access links included in suspicious emails.
The Police recommend that those who have received such messages call 112 or contact the nearest police unit immediately.
